Amsterdam Crusaders
De Dyan Kralt Bowl is uiteraard het hoogst haalbare voor jeugdspelers in Nederland. Wij als Crusaders zijn erg fortuinlijk met onze plaatsing voor deze prestigieuze Bowl game.
Dit jaar nemen we afscheid van een zeer grote groep getalenteerde spelers. Ik zou het hen van harte gunnen om hun jeugdjaren af te sluiten met een kampioenschap. Ze hebben er als groep hard voor gewerkt en ze verdienen het.
Onze tegenstander, de Rotterdam Trojans, heeft het ons in onze voorgaande ontmoeting erg lastig gemaakt. Coach Erkilla van de Trojans ken ik als een zeer intelligente coach die alles uit de kast zal trekken om de overwinning mee te nemen naar Rotterdam. Wij zullen echter ons vertrouwde systeem blijven spelen en proberen om met onze speelstijl de overwinning te behalen. Wij hebben nog een dikke week om ons systeem te fine tunen en zullen ons best doen om foutloos te spelen. Football blijft een spel waar diegene die de minste fouten maakt de wedstrijd wint.
Een goed regulier seizoen met maar 1 verlieswedstrijd is geen garantie voor een kampioenschap, het hele seizoen staat of valt met de playoffs en de daarop volgende finale.
Nijmegen zal op 4 juli ongetwijfeld een mooie organisatie neerzetten met een geweldige ambiance om de finale te spelen, wij als Crusaders zullen ons steentje bijdragen door een goede mooie wedstrijd te spelen. Het publiek,wat een heel seizoen langs de lijnen heeft gestaan, wordt 4 juli sowieso kampioen.
Ik heb er alle vertrouwen in dat de finale een spannende wedstrijd wordt. Rotterdam en Amsterdam zijn beide goede teams met een goede organisatie. De sportiviteit die wij als beide teams in het verleden naar elkaar hebben getoond zal ook op 4 juli weer hoog in het vaandel staan.

When the Rotterdam Trojans first step foot on the field at the Dyan Kralt Bowl it will already seem like an unbelievable conclusion to a season that almost wasn’t. One year ago, our team waved goodbye to many great teammates as a full half of our roster was composed of departing upperclassmen. There was doubt in the league office if we would even be able to field a team this season and as many may remember, we were left off of the initial schedule.
We never lost focus, however, and we knew that our team offered three things that would make the difference: peer leadership, great team atmosphere and bringing out all of the fun aspects of football at practice. Even frozen fields and horrible weather couldn’t dampen the enthusiasm our players and recruits had at practice and by the time the season arrived we had our team at strength and the blessing of the league to continue.
The season had its ups and downs, but throughout each game and each practice the same always held true: we stayed a team. The playoff have been a chance to put our team commitment to the test. Before the semifinals we did not have to worry about believing in a win – we just had to believe in ourselves and our teammates to play the best football that we could. That day it was enough for the win and a chance to meet Amsterdam in the Dyan Kralt Bowl.
When looking ahead at what to expect in the upcoming game one has to look back at our last meeting. On that day we saw a real contrast in styles between the two offenses. We like to spread the field and run a more "contemporary" offense. We use a combination of various offensive sets, motion and options to create space for our offensive players. Amsterdam also uses a combination of offensive sets and motions, but in our last meeting came back more and more to find success in traditional heavy sets with two tight ends and and fullback and proceeded to pound the ball - and the clock - into submission.
There is one that can be expected: both offenses will be fun to watch. Amsterdam and Rotterdam produced 460 points combined this season which includes our 7 TD meeting (1 TD on defense). As it so often is in playoffs, the team to raise the trophy will be the team that excels on defense. Look for each team to bring a solid combination of coverages, blitzes and pure intensity to win this defensive showdown.
For those coming to see us for the first time there are a couple of players to watch. On offense, #8 Kevin Wesseling was a leading rusher and scorer this season. Kevin’s ground game is complemented by receiver #86 Mark van Diepen who scored the winning touchdown in the semifinals. On defense, look for Defensive Captain #25 Guus Bruinhof to be patrolling the secondary and #56 Erik-Jan Fricke guarding the ground as outside linebacker.
